This season has been nothing short of historic for the Christel House Eagles, as both the soccer and volleyball teams have etched their names in the school’s record books with remarkable achievements and unforgettable moments. For the first time ever in Christel House history, the Boys Soccer Team captured the IHSAA Sectional #42 Championship. This milestone victory was a culmination of grit, skill, and relentless determination, symbolizing a new era for Eagles’ athletics. The journey to the sectional title was anything but easy. In a thrilling come-from-behind victory, the Eagles faced the formidable #3 ranked Greenwood Christian Academy (GCA). The match started on a rocky note as GCA scored within the first few minutes, setting the tone for a nail-biting battle. The Eagles, however, refused to back down. For most of the game, they battled hard, searching for the equalizer. With just six minutes left before the possibility of overtime, the team finally struck, sending the game into extra time and igniting the hopes of everyone watching. Tensions ran high during overtime, but neither team could break the deadlock, leading to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. The Eagles showed incredible composure under pressure, triumphing 4-2 in the shootout and securing their place in sectional history. Following that epic win, the Eagles traveled to face Lutheran in the sectional final. With confidence riding high, Christel House delivered a masterclass performance, shutting out Lutheran 2-0 on their home turf to clinch the championship. The success of the boys’ soccer team was fueled by the leadership and talent of key players. Junior Dami Ayodele provided relentless energy and defensive stability throughout the season. Senior David Carillo was a constant presence, bringing experience and composure. Junior Jeyson Correa stood out as a goal-scoring machine, netting four goals in the tournament alone and tallying over 18 for the season. His knack for finding the back of the net made him a nightmare for opposing defenses. Seniors Kevin Cruz and Habib Bojang were equally instrumental, with Bojang amassing over 20 goals and 15 assists, making him arguably the most dynamic player on the squad. Their synergy and teamwork were vital components of the Eagles’ historic run. While the boys were busy making history, the girls soccer team also celebrated a significant milestone by winning their first sectional game ever. They defeated Cardinal Ritter on the road in a hard-fought contest that showcased the growth and potential of the program. Junior standout Keryn Cruz led the charge offensively, breaking the school record for goals in a season and proving herself as a lethal striker. Her ability to find scoring opportunities consistently made her a threat to any opponent. Senior goalie Dayana Orellana anchored the defense with remarkable skill, recording four shutouts and emerging as a standout netminder. Her leadership and clutch saves were critical in tight matches. Freshman Genesis Rios Ramos added youthful energy and versatility to the team, showing promise that will surely pay dividends in the seasons to come. Meanwhile, the Christel House volleyball team soared to new heights as well, clinching the conference championship for the first time in school history. This victory reflected the hard work, resilience, and teamwork that head coach Jason McCrorie has instilled in the squad. The volleyball team’s success was powered by a talented group of seniors who provided experience and leadership on and off the court. Lilly Reaves, Alexis Wilson, Emily Salcedo, Odalis Valerio, Hailey Hudson, and Alyssa Schultz were instrumental in securing the championship. Their cohesive play, combined with strong serving, precise hitting, and tough defense, made the Eagles a dominant force throughout the season. The team’s unity and competitive spirit shone brightly in every match. Coaching also played a pivotal role in these triumphs. Boys soccer coach Keith Stewart’s tactical expertise and motivational leadership brought out the best in his players during the most critical moments. Girls soccer coach Joe Zwiebel guided the young program with patience and strategic insight, fostering an environment where players like Cruz, Orellana, and Ramos could thrive. Coach McCrorie’s volleyball squad benefited from his emphasis on fundamentals, teamwork, and mental toughness, all of which were crucial in securing the conference crown. The 2025 season is not over yet, but the Christel House Eagles will be remembered as a watershed moment in the school’s athletic history. Not only did the boys soccer team win the first-ever sectional championship in any sport for the school, but the volleyball team also claimed its inaugural conference title. The achievements speak volumes about the dedication of the players, the commitment of the coaches, and the support of the entire Christel House community. Beyond the trophies and accolades, these teams have set a standard of excellence and perseverance for future Eagles to aspire to. Their success embodies the spirit of hard work, teamwork, and pride in representing Christel House. The Christel House Eagles have not only soared but have firmly established themselves as a competitive force in Indiana high school sports.
